About Finca La Cabra Coffee

About Finca La Cabra

Welcome to Finca La Cabra, an enchanting coffee farm nestled near Portrerillos Arriba in Chiriqui, Panama. This pristine oasis, surrounded by lush rainforest and sitting at an elevation of 1500 meters, offers the perfect setting for exceptional coffee cultivation. Managed by Kelly Hartmann, whose family boasts award-winning farms in Panama, our journey at Finca La Cabra began in 2016. We've planted close to 20,000 coffee trees, focusing on Geisha coffee and two heirloom Ethiopian varieties, all while prioritizing sustainability. What makes Finca La Cabra unique is its manageable size and accessible terrain, creating an ideal environment for coffee cultivation. We've found the sweet spot above 1,500 meters where high-quality coffee thrives without compromising production. Geisha coffee takes center stage, known for its sweet and complex flavors. We also cultivate two experimental Ethiopian heirloom varieties, Tigi I and Betty II, adding diversity to our offerings. At Finca La Cabra, we believe that crafting quality coffee is an art form. It requires expertise, passion, and a commitment to continuous improvement. Through our rigorous selection process, meticulous sorting stages, innovative processing techniques, traceability practices, and hands-on approach—we strive to create coffees that captivate the senses and leave a lasting impression on every coffee lover's palate.

Ngöbe-Buglè People

he Ngöbe-Buglé people, an indigenous community in Panama, play a vital role in the coffee agriculture of Panama, including at Finca La Cabra. These skilled individuals have been migrating from their mountainous homeland in the Comarca province for many years to work on coffee farms surrounding the Baru volcano.

At Finca La Cabra, we deeply value and respect the culture and way of life of the Ngöbe-Buglé people. Their expertise and dedication are invaluable to our coffee production process. They actively participate in various tasks such as pruning, weeding, and harvesting.

We have various permanent employees from the Ngöbe-Buglé community. Over time, we have been impressed by their intelligence and observant nature. Their presence enriches our farm not only through their hard work but also through their unique perspectives and contributions.
We're committed to supporting the well-being of our Ngöbe-Buglé workers in partnership with other coffee producers in Panama. Our joint efforts focus on healthcare, nutrition, education, and childcare, aiming to improve their quality of life.

Our collaboration with the Ngöbe-Buglé people is based on mutual respect and aims to create sustainable practices that honor both nature and traditional indigenous knowledge in Panama's coffee industry.
